Mind & Body – LUAP at Christie’s and Piccadilly Lights

LUAP creates a sculptural work for Me, My Brain and I, a public exhibition and charity auction supporting Parkinson’s UK. The piece is displayed at Koppel X, projected onto Piccadilly Lights, and auctioned through Christie’s.

In late 2022, LUAP is invited to take part in Me, My Brain and I, a high-profile project in support of Parkinson’s UK. The initiative brings together leading artists to respond to the form of the brain, using sculpture to explore questions around mental health, identity and neurological complexity. Contributors include Tracey Emin, David Bailey and D*Face.

LUAP’s piece, titled Mind & Body, features the Pink Bear sculpted in soft pink fabric, standing atop a reclaimed birch trunk. A transparent rod connects the bear’s chest to a floating brain above, creating a visual thread between physical form and psychological presence. The work speaks to the fragility of that connection, and the ways in which strength can also hold vulnerability.

“I wanted to create a work that explored the fragility and softness of the body and mind. Something that physically shows how delicate that connection can be.”

The piece is exhibited at Koppel X in central London from 28 to 30 October 2022. Alongside the exhibition, the artworks appear on the giant Piccadilly Lights screen, reaching thousands of passers-by with a moment of stillness, reflection and public care.

The project culminates in a charity auction hosted online in partnership with Christie’s, with all proceeds supporting Parkinson’s UK and their work in treatment, care and research. LUAP’s sculpture is sold alongside contributions from a powerful cross-section of contemporary art and culture.

Mind & Body continues LUAP’s focus on the relationship between internal and external experience. Through the Pink Bear, he gives form to emotional states, asking audiences to look again at what strength and softness can mean when held together.
