LUAP Commissioned by Marriott Group for Pink Bear Installation in Berlin
LUAP’s Pink Bear now hangs pride of place in the lobby of Moxy Ostbahnhof Berlin, a bold and contemporary destination from the Marriott Group’s Moxy Hotels brand. The commission was awarded via a Talent House proposal, where LUAP initially pitched a large-scale mural titled I Dream Of Clones. While the team loved the concept, they asked if the piece could take a different form—something suspended rather than wall-mounted.
Inspired by a recent visit to Jeff Koons’ exhibition at New Port Street Gallery, LUAP reimagined the work as a double-sided illuminated light box. The result plays on advertising’s power to shape identity and perception. Featuring both the Pink Bear and Barbie, the piece reflects LUAP’s ongoing exploration of branding, image culture and the plasticity of self.
The project also included a live performance for the hotel’s opening night. With "Berlin Underground" as the theme, LUAP staged a 5-minute performance where the Pink Bear and Barbie appeared in oversized, human-scale toy packaging. Fifteen guests were allowed in at a time, creating an intimate and immersive viewing experience.
The event was a vibrant celebration, filled with energy and surreal touches. LUAP is grateful to have been invited to contribute to such a bold and creative project from the Marriott Group. As for who stole the show? The Pink Bear might have a strong case.
