Helmets For Heroines
I was honoured to take part in the Helmets for Heroines project — a powerful initiative that raises awareness around breast cancer while celebrating female riders in the male-dominated world of motorcycling. It’s a cause that hits close to home. I lost my Nanna to breast cancer, and I poured a lot of energy into this piece with the hope it might help others.
Helmets for Heroines is both an art and motorcycle event, run by The Gabriel Hounds, which showcases iconic, customised helmets designed by emerging and established artists. These one-of-a-kind works are auctioned off to raise money for Breast Cancer Care, a UK-based charity providing support for those affected by breast cancer.
My design was inspired by my Decadence series — a blend of rich textures and expressive marks exploring beauty and fragility. The helmet features layered paint, gold tones, and visual echoes of decay and renewal. A short time-lapse video shows the entire creative process.
To capture the finished helmet, I collaborated with my friend Martina, who modelled it wearing Chika Wear. Her energy and style brought the whole shoot to life. It was a creative project with a lot of heart behind it, and it felt great to contribute to something with such a meaningful cause at its core.
