30 New Paper Paintings
This week, LUAP presents a fresh body of work — thirty new paper paintings that mark a subtle but powerful evolution in his practice. Known for large-scale installations and the ever-present Pink Bear, these pieces offer a more distilled and contemplative perspective.
Created using acrylic, ink and collage on textured stock, each work continues LUAP’s exploration of pattern and symbolism, influenced by memories and visual fragments that recur in his larger works. Stripped of spectacle, the compositions allow the viewer to sit with repetition, to notice the way colour, texture and form communicate beyond narrative.
“Repetition allows ideas to unfold differently with each viewing,” LUAP says. “It’s about persistence, like a mantra or a memory you keep returning to. These paintings are quieter, but still deeply connected to the Pink Bear’s journey.”
Though smaller in scale, the works retain LUAP’s distinctive aesthetic — a collision of precision and chaos, control and improvisation. The tension between printed pattern and hand-painted gesture becomes a space for reflection. Here, the Pink Bear may be absent in form, but not in presence.
These new paper pieces are available for acquisition directly through LUAP Studios. A limited edition series may follow.
