The Hero's Journey

The Hero’s Journey

The Hero’s Journey is a personal reinterpretation of the classic mythic structure, told through LUAP’s Pink Bear. Inspired by Joseph Campbell’s monomyth, the series uses the Pink Bear as a symbol of the self—both vulnerable and determined—moving through a cycle of challenge, transformation and return.

The journey begins in the artist’s own world, shaped by childhood, creativity and inner doubt. The Pink Bear is called into unfamiliar territory, leaving behind safety to confront feelings of disconnection, fear and the unknown. Along the way, he traverses surreal, abstracted landscapes where fractured patterns and faded surfaces mirror the internal struggle to grow and adapt.

Through persistence, clarity begins to break through. Colour pushes up beneath decay, and quiet moments of stillness suggest the emergence of hope, connection and self-understanding. By the journey’s end, the Pink Bear returns changed—still marked by experience, but no longer defined by it.

The Hero’s Journey becomes a visual meditation on resilience. It speaks to the slow, often difficult work of self-acceptance, reminding us that strength can be quiet, and that meaning is something we build, not something we find
